You can give up your salvation....ever wonder how? The father burns the branches that don't produce fruit. How do we produce fruit, we stay in him. How do we stay in him... by following his commands. If it didn't matter if we followed the commands or not, then there would be no point to. Don't be fooled by the lie that "just believe" and your good. Believe (Faith) has always been the way to get favor (Grace) from God. But you don't stay in favor by being disobedient. And his laws are the same then and now, he doesn't change. Jesus didn't come to do away with the law but to fulfill every command and prophecy.

If "doing good works"(obeying the law((Torah))) didn't matter...then we would't need Christ to make it possible for us to turn back to God's way, and thus coming back to God. He says draw nearer to me, and I will draw near to you. NOT the other way around. Although he will call you to his truth, it's always up to you to follow the path. We can do all things through Christ means by walking the path he has set, we can accomplish the goal. If you're doing what ever you want and calling eval what ever you want to call, then you can't obtain the goal on your own.

So yes, you must also DO but doing doesn't "save" you, trust does. But "I will show you my faith by my works"...

Fun fact, the Hebrew word for "faith" is emuha, which properly translates to faithfulness. Now go learn and do faithfulness.

Whether we're Christian or not, we've all been taught the Golden Rule: "do unto others as you would have others do to you". Jesus said it , in a positive restatement of something already in the Jewish oral tradition. When you mentally see yourself in place of those you act upon, the picture becomes clearer. Think like that, and you won't be so eager to do in your main rival at work . We often pull up short when we feel in our own back the knife which we just started to twist into someone else's. This is a good place to start: it's something for us to measure up to. Yet there are some things the matter with the Golden Rule. There is, of course, the sado-masochist twist -- someone doing unto others the torture he so craves from them. A more important problem, though, is that the Golden Rule keeps you in the center of it. No matter how many lessons you learn from trading places, they're still your lessons, and it's still your human capacity to love. This capacity is more like a dinner plate than a deep well, quite shallow when compared with the task at hand of living a loving and holy life.

Loving God first we would discover Pure Love and would find ourselves unable to wean ourselves away from it. We would discover that the love we experience from spouses, children, family and friends cannot compare to the love of God. The love of God compared to the love of human beings is like comparing the Sistine Chapel to paint-by-numbers. We would begin to let go of the belief that life and happiness can be found in this changing world and our attachments to it would begin to break down. We would become mystics, burning with divine fire, overflowing with love for all and joy unbounded and who, in their right mind, would want that?

When our hearts are reluctant we often have to compel ourselves to pray for our enemies, to pour out prayer for those who are against us. Would that our hearts were filled with love! How frequently we offer a prayer for our enemies, but do it because we are commanded to, not out of love for them. We ask the gift of life for them even while we are afraid that our prayer may be heard. The Judge of our souls considers our hearts rather than our words. Those who do not pray for their enemies out of love are not asking anything for their benefit. St. Gregory the Great, Be Friends of God.

Twice in a row John makes the remarkable statement that God is love. If we have been confused by any personification of love, we are here instantly enlightened. A source of love so powerful to touch our lives is the same as God. God in His sovereign power and majesty is known as love. Everything that God has and does shines in the glory of His love. Where does love come from? The Christian's main task is to love God and man. We need to ask, "Where is that love going to come from?" After a study of the following verses from 1 John, we believe that you will join us in affirming that we need to first experience God's love before we can give it. Let's look at the scriptures which affirm this.
